Classic Battleship Rules
Battleship is a two-player guessing duel on two 10×10 grids. Each admiral secretly hides a fleet of five ships, then the two sides fire at each other's waters one cell at a time. The first player to sink all five enemy ships wins.
Fleet setup
Each fleet has five ships that occupy 17 cells in total: a Carrier (5 cells), a Battleship (4), a Cruiser (3), a Submarine (3) and a Destroyer (2). Ships go horizontally or vertically on the 10×10 grid. They may not overlap and may not leave the grid, but they are allowed to touch each other.
- Columns are labelled A to J and rows 1 to 10, so every cell has a name such as B7.
- In this game a random fleet is already deployed when the page opens. Before your first shot you can press Re-deploy fleet to arrange the ships yourself: pick a ship, tap the grid to place it and rotate it to change direction.
How a turn works
On your turn choose one cell of the enemy grid and fire. You are told only whether the shot was a hit or a miss. A hit lets you fire again right away; a miss passes the turn to your opponent. When every cell of a ship has been hit, the ship is sunk and its outline is revealed on your radar.
- Tap a cell once to select it and tap it again to fire, so a slip of the finger does not waste a shot.
- Both players see the same information: the results of the shots fired so far and the fleets already sunk, never the position of an unsunk ship.
Winning the game
The first admiral to sink all five enemy ships wins. There are no draws, because someone always sinks the last ship first. After the game the result card shows your shots, hits, accuracy and how many ships were sunk.
